An Estimated Half A Million Brits Have Switched From Real Cigarettes To E-Cigarettes In The Last Year

An Estimated Half A Million Brits Have Switched From Real Cigarettes To E-Cigarettes In The Last Year:

In the last year alone, an estimated half a million people in Britain have switched from smoking real cigarettes to vaping e-cigarettes. Many consider this to be a much healthier and cleaner alternative to smoking.

At the beginning of 2014, the Action on Smoking and Health organization, known as ASH, reported that there were 2.1 million vapers in Britain. Now there are more than 2.6 million, according to reports.

While ASH sees e-cigs as a good thing to help people give up tobacco, they also warned of a “worrying” increase in people falsely believing they are as harmful as or even more dangerous than regular cigarettes.

Research carried out at King’s College London found that electronic cigarette use increased among ex-smokers from 4.5 percent in 2014 to 6.7 percent in 2015.

These days, it’s all about smoking different flavors of e-juice from tank model e-cigarettes, as opposed to the old style “cigalikes,” which were more primitive and reportedly less satisfying.

It’s not all good news either for vapers; researchers have found some of the flavorings in e-juice contain potentially harmful levels of chemicals.

Deborah Arnott, the chief executive of ASH, said, ‘The number of ex-smokers who are staying off tobacco by using electronic cigarettes is growing, showing just what value they can have. But the number of people who wrongly believe that vaping is as harmful as smoking is worrying.”

She added, “The growth of this false perception risks discouraging many smokers from using electronic cigarettes to quit and keep them smoking instead which would be bad for their health and the health of those around them.”

At the same time, Dr. Leonie Brose, from the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience at King’s College London, told reporters that smokers need to be educated about the relatively healthier option of vaping over smoking, saying, “We must clearly communicate the relative safety of electronic cigarettes to smokers.”
